about

who we are

Forever Shashi Foundation (FSF) is a registered pan-India NGO with the aim to educate and empower adolescents and youth on various social and environmental issues. We employ experiential and participatory learning approaches via workshops, training, campaigns and community building activities to impact change.

The foundation’s methodology is founded in the belief that by engaging children in these issues from an early age, they can foster a culture of responsibility, awareness and action among the future generations.

Inspiration

Our NGO, Forever Shashi Foundation, is dedicated to preserving and promoting the values and passions of our beloved founder, Mrs. Shashi Sinha. She was not just a homemaker but also a source of inspiration and a role model for many. Her love for nature and her compassionate nature shaped the lives of her family and those around her. She was a strong and empowered woman who constantly uplifted those around her.

Mrs. Shashi Sinha's roots were deeply connected to the lap of nature, as she grew up in small green townships where she developed a profound appreciation for the natural world. Despite shifting to the bustling city of Delhi after her marriage, she refused to let go of her love for nature. In fact, she embraced every opportunity to be close to it, cherishing every vacation trip by immersing herself in the beauty of natural waters and forests.

Her passion for nature was truly remarkable. Mrs. Sinha had an extraordinary ability to recognize different trees from a distance just by observing their leaves, a skill honed by her deep connection with the natural world. This love for nature also influenced her perspective on life and how she raised her children.

As a mother, she devoted herself to grooming her three daughters and one son into not just successful professionals but also kind-hearted and compassionate individuals. She believed in nurturing them not just for personal success, but also for the betterment of society. Her children imbibed her values and carried them forward as they grew into adulthood, becoming an integral part of Forever Shashi Foundation.

Join us in celebrating the life of a remarkable woman, Mrs. Shashi Sinha, whose passion for nature and compassion for humanity continue to inspire us. Forever Shashi Foundation is a tribute to her legacy, and we strive to uphold the values she instilled in her family.

Together, let's build a greener and more compassionate world with the Forever Shashi Foundation. Let's come together and make a positive impact on our planet, just as she did throughout her life.

Vision & Focus

Forever Shashi Foundation's vision is to nurture modern environmental, social empowerment and sustainable development values and practices by bridging society, knowledge from our environment. Our focus is to build and create a society where the communities are made-up of and led by resilient youth with civic responsibilities towards environment and society being an intrinsic part of their identity.

Unfortunately, we are far more comfortable making individual environmental choices than we are getting involved in local decision-making. This mindset is reflected in most environmental outreach. The question is how do we change this dynamic?

Research tells us that young people develop their sense of civic and environmental efficacy and start imbibing social norms between the ages of 10 and 14. If, during this time they can, while learning, solve problems that plague the environment and hence the society, then this action will become their tool of choice. This will also make sure that young people who have these experiences will continue to use similar means to solve environmental and social problems into adulthood. We believe that by engaging children from an early age, they can foster a culture of responsibility, empathy and leadership among the future generations. By investing in the potential of young leaders, it can foster a more inclusive, equitable, sustainable and clean world.

We endeavor to build a strong and responsible civil society, good environmental practices via a passionate youth to safeguard our environment, foster ethical societal values and improve the individual’s and peoples’ lives.

Our work revolves around providing awareness and education activities in 4 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):

SDG 11

Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable

As the cities are becoming more populous and seeing rapid development of infrastructure, the surrounding environment is slowly disappearing. More and more people are living in urban slums without the basic facilities of clean water, quality food or clean air. Often, the people living in such impoverished backgrounds are the first victims of development and climate change. It is becoming more and more critical day by day to ensure that cities are built to be eco-friendly, sustainable and resilient in order to continue thriving and surviving.

SDG 12

Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns

The world is seeing rampant obesity and chronic malnutrition at the same time. Not only is there a major divide between access to basic food and nutrition, more and more food available in the markets are being grown and exposed to pesticides and other chemicals while being grown in land which has lost a majority of its nutrition causing a shortage of good quality raw food further exacerbating the issue of sustainable consumption and production patterns leading to a rise in lifestyles health issues and diseases.

SDG 13

Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts

Climate change disproportionately affects vulnerable communities, exacerbating existing inequalities. By prioritizing climate action, SDG 13 aims to ensure that climate policies and actions consider social equity, human rights, and economic opportunities for all, leaving no one behind. The importance of SDG 13 lies in its recognition of the urgent need to address climate change comprehensively and collaboratively. By inculcating the need and relevance for environment conscious behaviour and sustainable practices we can create a cadre of youth who can foster a more sustainable, resilient, and equitable world for current and future generations.

SDG 16

Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels

SDG 16 focuses on promoting peaceful, just, and inclusive societies and aims to build effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions at all levels. It addresses critical issues related to governance, rule of law, access to justice, human rights, and reduction of violence and conflict. Building strong and accountable institutions is crucial for achieving sustainable development. This can be done by ensuring that decision-making processes are inclusive, responsive, and participatory. Empowering marginalized groups and amplifying their voices in policymaking helps address inequalities and ensures that no one is left behind in the development process. This makes it crucial for values of human rights, democratic rights and citizenship responsibilities and duties be introduced to youth to empower them to actively participate in decision making in institutions at all levels to promote justice and reduce inequalities while promoting sustainable development.

We strongly believe linking civic duties with climate change action is essential to fostering collective responsibility and encouraging active participation in addressing the global climate crisis. By linking civic duties with climate change action, we can foster a sense of shared responsibility and empower individuals and communities to actively contribute to climate solutions. Taking collective action can create a positive ripple effect, inspiring others to join the effort and drive meaningful change for a more sustainable future.

our work

Our mission is to promote environmental conservation, sustainable living, and compassion for all living beings. We organize various initiatives, workshops, and events that focus on raising awareness about environmental issues, organizing tree-planting drives, and working towards the welfare of society.

Areas of Action

Our foundation offers various programs and activities that foster civic engagement, social awareness, leadership skills and personal growth. Some of our activities are:

  • Environmental Education trainings at schools and communities
  • Food Sustainability awareness and drives
  • Green Regeneration activities
  • Civic responsibilities and duties awareness through trainings and workshops
  • Awareness and trainings on Gender rights and issues
  • Leadership skills development programs for youth

Past Projects

We have organized several activities and events since our inception to mobilise the community and raise awareness on our areas of actions. Some of the activities we have organised are:

  • We have organised several events to raise awareness around festival season (such as Diwali) to advocate and raise awareness for more eco-friendly and sustainable gifting items among our relatives, our society and schools. Gifts like indoor plants planted in green shells of coconut were promoted.
  • In several events at schools we held workshops to teach children to conduct a plastic and paper audit to analyze first-hand the quantity of plastic and paper being used and thrown by them on a daily to weekly basis. This was done to help the children realise the amount of waste generated and a dialogue was held with the children, families and teachers to discuss the need for sustainability and reducing waste. Further, alternative options and solutions were discussed to reduce unnecessary plastic and paper usage in their daily lives.
  • We have even provided training to the domestic workers in our society on understanding the basics of waste segregation, reducing wastefulness and water conservation during household cleaning activities.
  • Training was also provided to women in nearby financially impoverished communities to make reusable cloth bags from waste materials to sell in nearby vicinities to earn economic remuneration while practicing sustainable economy practices.

Our Values

Experiential and participatory learning
Concepts and learning taught through experiential and participatory learning approaches sticks with an individual for a much longer time. We believe that simply giving awareness on an issue is not the solution but through hands-on experience based, learner-focussed learning opportunities for them to relate to the social issues and themes on a personal and societal level. This also allows the learners to reflect and engage with the concepts more deeply allowing space for more creativity and innovative thinking to thrive.
Strategic collaborations and networking
We believe in the strength of collective access and having a support network to depend on for psycho-social support to face challenges and implement solutions. This is why we are always looking to find collaborators to create better opportunities, build bigger platforms and reach more youth to make an impact which lasts.
Commitment to community and wellbeing
In today’s day and age wellbeing is an essential component of any entity to ensure they are able to live full and productive lives. Our commitment will always lie with the individuals and community to ensure that our actions help in improving the quality of life and enable them to give back to society to continue the cycle of giving and upliftment of ourselves, community and society.
Equity and Ethics based decision making
It is our motto to make equity and ethics a conscious aspect of our daily work and life. While working with vulnerable members of society such as young children it becomes our duty to ensure that they face no harm or become victims or malicious or nefarious intentions and crimes. We also apply these principles inwards among our organisation members as well. We place great importance on the principles of equity and ethics guiding all our decision making processes.
Incorporating sustainability in all processes
As an organization envisioning a more sustainable world with human development co-existing with flourishing natural systems, sustainability is a principle and way of life that we strive to incorporate in our works and processes.
